Rising Action




·         Every afternoon, after school, some children played in the large, beautiful garden of a huge deserted castle. (Page 79)


·         One afternoon, they heard a great voice boom out. It was the giant. The giant found them playing in his garden and scared them away. (Page 79)
·         He wanted the garden himself so he built a high wall around it with sharp iron spikes on top. (Page 79)
·         Winter came and the snow covered the ground. (Page 80)
·         At last spring came, but spring refused to go into his garden. (Page 80)
·         One morning, spring came into the garden with the children. (Page 80)


Turning point
     
        ·         The giant saw a boy crying bitterly and was moved to pity when he realised how
               selfish he had been and realise why spring never came into his garden. (Page 80)




     

        ·         The giant decided to knock down the walls. (Page 80)

     

        ·         He decided to make his garden into a children’s playground. (Page 81)

Falling Action/Conflicts
       
        · The children ran away when they saw the giant except for the boy. (Page 81)
       
        · When the children saw that the giant was kind and friendly, they ran back into his

          garden followed by the spring through the hole in the wall. (Page 81)

Resolution
       
        ·Years later, the giant grew old and weak. (Page 82)





        ·One day, he saw the boy again, his face was red with anger and wanted to kill

         whoever who had hurt the boy. (Page 82)


        · The boy brought the giant to a place called Paradise and that afternoon the children
          found the dead giant lying peacefully under a tree. (Page 82)
