Rising Action


·         Mathilde was pretty and charming (Page 175)

·         She was born into a lower middle-class family (Page 175)

·         Married a junior clerk in Ministry of Public Instruction (Page 175)

·         Felt that she was destined for better things in life (Page 175)

·         She fretted constantly feeling hopeless in everything.(Page 175)

·         One day, her husband came home proudly holding a large envelope. With a invitation to a ball. (Page 175)
Turning Point/Conflict


·         When they reached home, Mathilde realised that the necklace was missing and decided to look for it. (Page 181 and Page 182)

·         Mathilde and her husband could not find the necklace therefore they decided to buy the necklace that is identical to the necklace Mathilde borrowed from Madam Loisel. (Page 182)

·         The necklace cost 36,000 francs. (Page 183)

·         They borrow money from people to pay for the necklace. (Page 183)
Falling Action


·         They could not find the necklace anywhere so they decided to buy and identical one to replace the missing one, worth 36, 000 francs. (Page 183)

·         Her husband borrowed money and wrote IOU's from moneylender. (Page 183)

·         Finally, they bought the necklace. (Page 183)
Resolution


·         After returning the necklace to her friend, it took Mathilde and her husband ten years to repay all their debts. (Page 184)

·         Ten years later, Mathilde ran into her friend on the street where her friend did not recognize Mathilde. (Page 185)

·         She told her friend everything about and her friend was smiling with pride and joy, telling Mathilde that the necklace was just paste that was worth at most 500 francs. (Page 186)
